No. 9 post player commits to Kentucky

Alexis Jennings, a 6-foot-2 post player from Sparkman High School near Huntsville, Ala., has committed to Kentucky.

Jennings, ranked the No. 9 post player in the nation and the 64th best player in the 2014 class by ESPN, had offers from Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Florida State and Middle Tennessee.

As a junior, Jennings led the Senators to a 33-1 overall record averaging 22.1 points, 9.6 rebounds, 3.3 blocks and 3.2 steals a game.

She is the second commitment for the 2014 class, joining three-star forward Jaycee Coe from Tennessee.

Kentucky picked up its first 2015 commitment one day ago in Bell County’s Maci Morris.

In a story in the Huntsville newspaper, Senators Coach Patrick Delay discussed Jennings’ defensive prowess, which includes nearly as many steals as blocks per game.

“We put her in front on our press,” Delay said. “She was up there on the ball and was trapping the first trap a lot. We were a little worried about her running out of gas. But once we put her out there, from the beginning, she was just too good to take off the ball. She’s got such long arms and she anticipates passes very well.”
