Mathies named to Wade Watch list

Kentucky senior A’dia Mathies was named to the pre-season Wade Watch list for the State Farm Wade Trophy, presented to the nation’s top women’s basketball player each year.

Mathies, who led UK in scoring (15 points a game), assists (2.7), steals (2.6) and three-point percentage (.378) last season, was one of 12 finalists for the trophy last March. The Southeastern Conference Player of the Year was second for the team in rebounds (5.1) and third in blocks (21). She has 1,435 career points and is No. 12 on UK’s all-time scoring list.

The Louisville guard was joined on the watch list by fellow Kentuckian Anna Martin of DePaul, who starred at Lexington Christian. Louisville’s Shoni Schimmel also is on the pre-season list.

The only other SEC player on the watch list is Vanderbilt’s Christina Foggie. Baylor, which Kentucky plays on Nov. 13, has two players on the list in Odyssey Simms and 2012 honoree Brittney Griner.
