Kentucky releases non-conference schedule

Kentucky will get its chance to down defending national champion Baylor in its second game of the season.

That is one of many big games on UK’s non-conference schedule, which was released on Tuesday.

After a home opener against Delaware State on Nov. 13, the Cats will head to Waco, Texas, to take on Brittney Griner and the Bears, who went a perfect 40-0 to close out last season. That game will be a part of the State Farm Tip-off Classic.

The Cats, who advanced to the Elite Eight for the second time in three years last season, will half a rough start to December as well, with a game at Louisville (Dec. 2), who will be ranked nationally. And then UK will return to Rupp Arena this season for a game against DePaul on Dec. 7.

The Blue Demons are led by former Lexington Christian standout Anna Martin, who led DePaul and the Big East in scoring last season.

In all, UK will face eight teams that advanced in post-season play.

Kentucky returns four starters who saw significant minutes from last season’s 28-7 team, which has won 31 straight non-conference games at home. The Cats also went unbeaten at Memorial Coliseum last year and have gone 48-2 there over the past three seasons.

The Southeastern Conference portion of the schedule was supposed to have been released on Monday, but it has been delayed.

Season ticket renewals were mailed out on Aug. 10. New season ticket holders can order tickets online at www.ukathletics.com or by calling the ticket office. Single-game tickets go on sale in late October.
