NCAA: UK 70, Michigan State 52

We are less than 10 minutes from tip off of the second round game of the NCAA Tournament between No. 4 seed Kentucky and No. 5 seed Michigan State. On the line is a trip to the Sweet 16.

  • MSU subs out for seniors and trails 70-52 with 45 seconds left.
  • It’s 70-52 with 1:35 remaining. Dunlap has come out with 21 points and eight rebounds.
  • With three minutes left, it’s a runaway with UK leading 64-49.
  • Cats up 58-41 with 8:10 to play. UK’s speed appears to be wearing down the Spartans.
  • With 11:20 to play in first half, Cats ahead 52-41 after Gray hits another rainbow three-pointer.
  • MSU Coach Merchant calls a timeout as back-to-back miscues give the Cats easy points and their largest lead of the game 49-37. There is 12:44 to play.
  • A Dunlap free throw gives Cats a 45-35 advantage with 14 to go.
  • UK grabs its largest lead of the game 42-35 on a Mathies leaner in the lane with 15:03 to go Cats lead 42-35.
  • At halftime, Cats go up 35-31 behind a three-pointer from Rebecca Gray. Dunlap has 11 points to lead UK. Watkins has added eight points. State has balanced scoring with Jefferson leading Michigan State with seven points. UK is shooting 41.9 percent from the field to 31.3 percent for the Spartans, who are winning the rebounding battle 22-21.
  • Amber Smith picks up second foul with 2:19 to play and Cats now lead 32-30.
  • With three minutes left in the first half, UK up four 32-28. Dunlap leads UK with 11 points. UK has forced turnovers on three of the last four Michigan State possessions. The Cats have had just one turnover in the past nine minutes.
  • Watkins layin on a no-look from Smith ties it up 28-28 with four minutes to go in first half.
  • Dunlap just scored her 11th point of the game on a drive around the Spartans’ 6-foot-9 DeHaan. Dunlap’s points have gotten UK within 26-24 with 7:38 to play in first half.
  • Mathies picks up her second foul with 8:17 to go and UK trailing 24-22.
  • Michigan State up 24-20 with nine minutes to play in first half.
  • Mitchell calls a timeout with Cats falling behind 24-19 with 10:15 to go in the first half. UK is shooting 61.5 percent but is being outrebounded by the bigger MSU 10-6.
  • With 11:55 to go in first half, Cats trail 20-17. After making its first five shots, UK has made just two of its last six.
  • Kalisha Keane’s three-pointer gives the Spartans their first lead 15-13 with 14 minutes to play in the first half.
  • Cats have made their first five shot attempts and hold an 11-8 lead over Michigan State after slightly more than four minutes of play. Dunlap has five points for the Cats. Four different MSU players have two points each.
